Biographical Statement
| Miriam Socoloff |
| Miriam Socoloff is a painter,mosaicist,mixed
media artist and educator. Ms. Socoloff has created mosaic murals for
a number of public buildings in the Chicago area. Her murals have been
published in "A Guide to Chicago Murals"
by Mary Lackritz Gray (University of Chicago Press, 2001) and in "Urban
Art Chicago" by Olivia Gude and Jeff Huebner (Ivan R.
Dee Publisher, 2000). Ms. Socoloff exhibits her work in Chicago area
galleries. She is also the curriculum coordinator and drawing and painting
instructor for the Advanced Arts Education Program at Gallery 37 School.

| In 1998, Ms. Socoloff was awarded
the Golden Apple Award for Excellence in Teaching. She received a Chicago
Artists International grant to study mosaic technique in Italy. She
was selected for an artist residency at the International School of
Art, Umbria, Italy and four artist residencies at the School of the
Art Institute of Chicago at Oxbow. She has also been awarded the Oppie
award by the Oppenheimer Family Foundation. She was awarded a fellowship
from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago to the Institute for
Art Educators sponsored by the Alliance of Independent Colleges of Art.
In 2003, Ms. Socoloff was awarded a Fulbright Memorial Fund Fellowship
to study in Japan. |
